The Lion is ideally located for visiting anglers fishing rivers and still waters in Shropshire, north Herefordshire and across the border into Powys.
There is a wide range of angling opportunities although fly fishing for wild brown trout, grayling and Atlantic salmon are probably the area's biggest draws.
The Lion is situated on the middle/upper river Teme (a river Severn tributary), which is well known for its trout and grayling fishing, along with coarse fishing for barbel and chub in its lower reaches. Guests are free to fish from our banks within season.
If you are a fisherman of exceptional skill and knowledge it may be possible for you to fish with a local gillie in the famous waters downstream of Leintwardine Bridge. There are no fees and success depends on interview with the local Tarleton Secretary. Catch return and barbless hooks are mandatory, the Tarleton Club's sole wish is to improve its skill base and knowledge of river management. We will be happy to contact the Tarleton Club secretary on your behalf prior to your stay and arrange a meeting for you.
Also nearby are the rivers Lugg and Arrow, which both offer excellent fly fishing opportunities for trout and grayling. A little further away are more famous rivers Wye and Severn.
In addition, Birmingham Angler's Association sell coarse fishing day tickets for their stretch of the lower Teme - 0121 454 9111. The Luldow Angling Club also sell day tickets for their 2 miles of the Teme as well as some coarse fishing on a nearby lake - calle East Hamlet News in Ludlow on 01584 872575.
